Google released new version of their toolbar for Firefox recently. Google Toolbar 5 (Beta) for Firefox is available at http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT5/.
After installing this new version of Google toolbar, Firefox is not closing properly. When you click on the close button, Firefox disappears but the process is still running and when I try to open Firefox again, it gives the message 'Firefox is already running and is not responding ...'.
I have to open task manager and search for process 'firefox.exe' under the Processes tab and close it down to be able to open the Firefox again. This is annoying. I tried disabling the Google Toolbar and then the issue no longer appears.
So, if you are having similar issues with Firefox after installing new version of Google Toolbar, either uninstall it to install the older version or disable it to resolve the issues.
