    Hi,
I saw your dollar2rupee rate calculator and it is wonderful.
However, I saw that Citibank has 99% of the time, offered a better rate than SBI but still, people prefer SBI. Can you please tell me why? I have never transfered money and this would be my first time.
    What do you personally recommend?

  5. Hi Chintan,

When transferring money to India, it is not just the conversion rate that you look at. The overall process like the number of days it takes for the transfer, customer service in case if you run into any issues and the online transfer website usefulness need to be considered. Some banks show a very good rate on their websites but they give a lesser rate when you make a transfer.

I think people prefer SBI as they give a better rate overall (they give you what they show on their site unlike some others) and also they show you an estimated amount upfront when you transfer.

I do recommend SBI personally. I use it often.

  21. It would be more helpful if you make a rough prediction about the future market. If a better exchange awaits , then we could hold on our currency exchange.

  23. Thanks for this useful site.... I have added it it my favourites.

I would like to give a business idea on this ... if not already used... sorry i have not surfed much on all ur pages and am using only this.....

    so here is the idea....

why dont you contact the banks whose rates are featured on this link?? and show them the no of hits you are getting for this link... and ask them to advertise their links to open new accounts on this page?

I am sure you might have thought of this?? but just thought would share with you my thoughts.

you can also start pages that give conversion rates for other major currencies!!!

    Thanks again.. god bless!

  26. Thanks Jigar,

I'm already using Google AdSense through which the banks can put advertisement links on my website for their services.
    ReplyDelete
  27. Suman,

I'm getting all values from the respective bank sites. These values change frequently and sometimes banks might show a better value on their public website and give a low rate when you login to transfer.

  28. Sathish,

Standard chartered bank doesn't provide live exchange rates on their website which I can extract and display on this site.

If you find a link where you see standard chartered bank USD to INR conversion rates, pass it on to me and I will add the rates to dollar2rupee.net.

  29. Thanks for gathering all dollar to rupee conversion information in one place and it is very useful to so many people like me. My suggestion is, why cant you gather gold, silver and diamond information at one place?. Again this is also very useful to everyone.

  30. Very useful site for comparing dollar to rupee conversion rates. Thanks for putting this up!

(BTW, it'd be very useful if you extended the line graph to include the past 6 months to a year (or however much you've collected) of data).

    Thanks again!

  31. Also, if you put in the neutral rate found at a neutral source like xe.com (should be very easy to screen scrape) on your page, this would be very helpful too. Thank you.

  32. Hey Madhukar,

I really liked your Dollar to Rupee tables/charts.

Can you also add xoom.com exchange rates on your Dollar to Rupee web page.

    Thanks,

  36. hay madhukar,

is it possible to make a line chart for all based on the amount transfer...
such as with in 5k with 10k with 15k...
4 or 5 charts.. by which we come to know how is giving a good rate for the amount which we are transfereing... becouse by looking at the current line chart we think remit2india is giving better rate where as...it is giving good rate only for the person who is transfeing 25k or more....
we could see hdfc and icici are giving good rates for the 5k transfer...

Thank you for creating this website... and it is very informative....
hope you will implement this future....

  37. Showing all the websites' exchange rates at one place is a nice feature. It will be much better if you show the fees that they charge as well.

  39. good work madhukar,

does the citi bank rate is for the normal rupee checking account or it is for the preferred one.

  40. Madhu,
Thanks for posting, dollar to ruppes exchange rate chart. I have saved it in my favorite and have used it.
One thing I noticed was SBI has different rates for $ range $50-2000 (46.84) and from $2000-4000(46.88) but you site has ranges $50-1000(46.84), $1000-2000(46.84) and $2000-4000(46.92).

So, your chart is for eg. off by 4cents for $2000-4000 range which I used today.
    thanks,
    Nupur

  41. Hey Madhukar!! Awesome site! Helps us very much..
I also track all these exchange rates personally and would like to share few observations with you. On any working day in India, the SBI and Axis rates get updated between 10:30 to 11:00 AM in India. Then you can see updated rates of remit2india (which will always be lesser). ICICI updates their rates the next and HDFC is the last one to update the rates anytime after 12:15 PM the same day. So, you see, the line graphs would depend on the time you update the rates. I would suggest that you update the graphs based on rates available at 1 PM on all these sites. That will give you the real picture. After 1 PM, ICICI and remit2india happen to change their rates frequently for once or twice.
Also add the last slabs of SBI and ICICI for higher value transfers. SBI's 25K+ slab is missing and ICICI's 1 lack+ slab is missing.

Wonderful work so far Dude!! Thanks!

  43. Thanks Madhu for the website...

I do not see CitiRemit rates for some reason. It would be great if that could be added. I currently see it from,
    https://citiremit.payquik.com/info_exrates.php

I would like to share with readers of this blog to use CitiRemit rather than Preferred Rupee accounts as rates differ by 0.55p per dollar on average. I lost some valuable money as it seemed obvious that a Preferred Account would offer a better rate than any transfer service by the same bank. But so was not the case.
